As an American you are filled with images of giant supermarkets and mega stores filled with food. For many Americans those images are just that, images. They are not the reality because getting enough food to eat can be hard and somewhat unattainable. So many working class Bronx residents choose between paying their bills and eating healthy on a daily basis. Some are even holding down a job but can't make enough to keep a home so resorting to living in their car or a homeless shelter is their only option. This makes healthy meal plans a nightmare due to lack of kitchen and refrigerator units. Community "Gatekeeper's" denying access to land use to help develop the South Bronx and it's members isn't helping matters much, pushing more and more into desperation and destitution. Food is a human right yet it has become big business in America for major corporations. Connecting "SHAME" to the stigma of getting free food helps corporations to thrive making top executives rich while local New Yorkers count their pennies just to buy milk and butter. There is hope and those that are making a true difference. Let me introduce to you RAIN INC. RAIN INC has a mobile food truck that serves Bronx residents no matter their income level every Monday and Thursday in front of Rainy Park starting at 10 AM in the morning. The food comes in hot trays for those who don't have access to kitchens and they give you enough to feed a family of three. RAIN INC understands that hunger has no physical appearance and they will serve anyone who ask. No sign up account required. I received a bag of food today to show you how easy it is. Yes, the food comes in lot's of packaging but that is required in order to serve the public. I will let you know how to recycle the packaging and make full use of what you are given in a later post.
